Measurement System Analysis (MSA)

Whenever measurements are used to quantify or verify process parameters or product performance, it essential that the measurement system used provides adequate:-

Accuracy
Resolution
Repeatability
Reproducibility

Measurements system that do not meet these criteria may produce may provide inaccurate and misleading data and cause poor decisions to be made by operators, quality engineers or seniors managers. Typical problems caused by poor measurements may include:-

Inappropriate adjustments to process parameters
Acceptance of non-conforming product
Rejection of conforming product
Increased levels of scrap and rework within the process.
